Finn Update

Finn had an appointment with the plastic surgeon again yesterday. We were told that surgery is our best option at this point. The hemangioma has gotten really large on his ear and doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon. It doesn't bother Finn at all, however, it has taken over his ear and it is the type that will not go away on it's own. If we want him to have a normal ear we have to stop it now! The doctor has scheduled us for reconstructive surgery on Sept. 2nd. If they have a cancellation, we may go sooner. While we are so happy to get rid of this, it is really scary because it is a pretty big surgery for such a little guy. We were hoping not to have to do it until he was one or two. They are going to remove the tumor and as much of the hemangioma as they can (whatever is left will not grow like it is now!). They are then going to take the skin that is left and replace the portion of his ear that they remove. If they don't have enough skin, they are going to do a skin graft on his neck and use that. The surgery takes about an hour and a half. That is a long time to be under so we are concerned about his young age. He is one tough little guy, so we know he will do just fine.

I am not sure how I missed this post. I am glad to hear the update. I completely understand your worry about putting him under, he is one tough little guy though he will be just fine. He will be in our prayers!
